Transportation Guide specifically for older adults. The guide was designed
to help older adults better understand and access their transportation

Thousands of veterans and their families now have another way to find help
when filing for pension benefits. Project VetAssist (www.vetassist.org) is
a free online service that guides vets or their survivors applying for the
VA Improved Pension Program. Financially limited veterans who are 65 or
older or physically disabled -- and had at least 90 days of service during
World War II or the Vietnam, Korean of Gulf Wars -- can apply for the

illness or disease? Wheels of Love helps seniors who suffer form
respiratory disorders, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, has a mobility

Community Extension Project, a non-profit youth agency that focuses on
youth development, is recruiting adult volunteers for its mentoring
program. Mentors are adults who offer support, compassion, counsel and

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the
permanently disabled power wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if
they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk
and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home and who meet the

The Miracle on Wheels program develops public awareness of the options
available to remain independent in your own home. If your mobility is

BEDFORD PARK AREA

The Argo-Summit, Bedford Park Women’s Club will hold their monthly meeting

BRIDGEVIEW AREA.

The Bridgeview Senior Citizens Club meet the first and third Thursday of

The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo,  a job fair
to be held at the zoo on Mon., March 15, from noon to 6 p.m. Applicants

HICKORY HILLS AREA

The St. Patricia Holy Name annual fish fry will be held Fri., Feb. 19,

LA GRANGE AREA

Buddy's Place Spring 8 Week Session will begin March 2. Buddy's Place of
Pillars is a family based children's grief support program for families
with children ages 4-18 who have experienced the death of a parent or
significant adult caregiver. The 8 Week Session is a closed,
psycho-educational support group that meets for 8 consecutive Tuesday
evenings from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. in La Grange. Buddy's Place also offers a
monthly family support group that meets on the 2nd Monday of every month
at 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. as well as a parent support group on the 4th Monday
of every month at 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. There is no cost to participate

Aging Care Connections (formerly Southwest Suburban Center on Aging), La
Grange, will offer an Early Stage Memory Loss Program in eight weekly
sessions for individuals and their family members dealing with early stage
memory disorders at 111 W. Harris Avenue, La Grange.  The series, which
begins Tues., March 2 at 1 p.m. is offered in affiliation with the
Alzheimer’s Association.  The program is free of charge, however, an

Aging Care Connections has announced that experienced, AARP-trained tax
volunteers will be available at 111 W. Harris Avenue, La Grange, by

The ConfiCare Act II offers a health and fitness walking class on Mondays

Community Nutrition Network, in conjunction with the Aging Care
Connections is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to frail, disabled
or homebound seniors in the area. Each day Monday through Friday more than
130 meals are delivered to seniors in La Grange, Riverside, North
Riverside, Lyons, Brookfield, Western Springs, Countryside, Hodgkins, La
Grange Park and Indian Head Park. These areas are divided into five routes
 and two volunteers are needed for each route. One person drives and one
person takes the meal to the door. Volunteers can commit to one day a week
or more. Deliveries usually take an hour. Anyone interested in donating

LYONS AREA

The Lyons Public Library will host a program titled “Beat the Unemployment

The Lyons Township High School Hall of Fame committee is looking for

interested in choosing this year's Hall of Fame inductees contact the LT

asked to attend approximately four meetings per year, with the bulk of the
work completed in June.

Aging Care Connections is working with Aging Well to recruit senior
volunteers to work as ambassadors in their local community. The

that there are choices and resources available regarding options for older

SUMMIT AREA

The Summit Park District will host their second annual “Flea Market in the
Park” Sat., May 22. For a fee of $15 you will receive a 15x18 space on the

The Heritage Middle School PTO will be awarding one $250 non-renewable
