St. Albert the Great Parish will host their annual St. Joseph Table Sat.,

are needed for Moraine Valley Community College’s Spring Job and

North American Youth Sports will hold their annual spring youth basketball

communities in the greater Lyons Township area, has created a
Transportation Guide specifically for older adults. The guide was designed
to help older adults better understand and access their transportation

Thousands of veterans and their families now have another way to find help
when filing for pension benefits. Project VetAssist (www.vetassist.org) is
a free online service that guides vets or their survivors applying for the
VA Improved Pension Program. Financially limited veterans who are 65 or
older or physically disabled -- and had at least 90 days of service during
World War II or the Vietnam, Korean of Gulf Wars -- can apply for the

illness or disease? Wheels of Love helps seniors who suffer form
respiratory disorders, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, has a mobility
limitation and difficulty in propelling a standard wheelchair, to receive

Community Extension Project, a non-profit youth agency that focuses on
youth development, is recruiting adult volunteers for its mentoring
program. Mentors are adults who offer support, compassion, counsel and

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the
permanently disabled power wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if
they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk
and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home and who meet the

The Miracle on Wheels program develops public awareness of the options
available to remain independent in your own home. If your mobility is
limited, you’re at risk of falling or aggravating your conditions and

BEDFORD PARK AREA

The Civic Center Authority Board of the Illinois and Michigan Canal will
meet Thurs., March 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Corridor Visitor’s
Center, 7800 West 65th St., Bedford Park. At the meeting the board members
will discuss the Santa Fe Prairie where work is done to improve four miles
of the DesPlaines River, the Portage Site for clean up days and ways to
develop the lands and waterways of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. The

BRIDGEVIEW AREA.

Registration is being held at the Bridgeview Park District for Princess
Ballet. Classes will be held Wednesdays starting March 17, from 3 to 4
p.m. Princess costumes, pink leotards, skirts & tights are all appropriate
clothing for this class with ballet shoes. This class is open to anyone

The Bridgeview Public Library will also host a Japanese Tea Ceremony Sat.,
March 20, at 2 p.m. The Japanese tea ceremony is a traditional ritual
influenced by Zen Buddhism in which powdered green tea, is ceremonially
prepared by a skilled practitioner and served to a small group in a
tranquil setting. The demonstration will be presented by Akemi Nakano Cohn
and members of the Chicago Chapter of the Urasenke school in Kyota, Japan.

The Bridgeview Park District will host Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, a job fair

The ConfiCare Act II offers a health and fitness walking class on Mondays

Community Nutrition Network, in conjunction with the Aging Care
Connections is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to frail, disabled
or homebound seniors in the area. Each day Monday through Friday more than
130 meals are delivered to seniors in La Grange, Riverside, North
Riverside, Lyons, Brookfield, Western Springs, Countryside, Hodgkins, La
Grange Park and Indian Head Park. These areas are divided into five routes
 and two volunteers are needed for each route. One person drives and one
person takes the meal to the door. Volunteers can commit to one day a week
or more. Deliveries usually take an hour. Anyone interested in donating

LYONS AREA

The Lyons Senior Citizens Club meets the 1st ad 3rd Tuesday of each month
through May. Meetings are held at St. John United Church of Christ, 4500

LYONS TOWNSHIP AREA

The Lyons Township Adult & Continuing Education Program is looking for
instructors and new classes to add to the fall 2010 program. Classes in
computers, digital photography and dance are specifically in need of
instructors. Classes run one or two nights a week for anywhere from one to

Award-winning artwork by more than 150 Lyons Township High School student
artists representing virtually every medium will be on display at the La

SUMMIT AREA

The Mrs. America Pageant system is announcing that the search is on for
the new Mrs. Summit. Once selected, the community representative will then
advance to compete in the Mrs. Illinois Pageant July 24, at the
Bolingbrook Performing Arts Auditorium. City and county titleholders will
compete to win more than $15,000 in prizes, one of which includes and all
expense paid trip to the national Mrs. America Pageant. Interested
applicants must love or work in the Illinois area, must be married during
the time of competition, a resident of the state for at least six months,

The Summit Park District will host their second annual “Flea Market in the
Park” Sat., May 22. For a fee of $15 you will receive a 15x18 space on the

St. Joseph School in Summit will  be hosting a benefit ball fundraiser
Sat., March 20, at the Mayfield Banquet  Hall, Chicago. The fundraiser
will feature a  silent auction, raffle drawing for a 40 inch HD

at 6:30 p.m. with dinner  served at 7:15. Tickets are $50 each until Feb.

WILLOW SPRINGS AREA

Willow Springs School District 108, 8345 S. Archer, will hold Kindergarten
Screening and Pre-Registration Tues., April 27, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
If your child will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, he/she is
eligible to enter kindergarten for the 2010/11 school year. In order to
register you must bring three proofs of residency (one must be a current
lease, mortgage bill or property tax bill and the other two can be one of
the following: a current utility bill, bank statement, cable bill, city
sticker receipt or public aid card) along with your child’s original birth
certificate. All parents will also be required to sign an affidavit to
ensure proof of residency. All medical information you have on your child
