NewsHigh school students receive haircuts to raise money for cancer research![]() On Feb. 26, more than 50 students and faculty of St. Laurence High School had their hair cut off to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity that supports childhood cancer research. The school raised more than $7,000 to help fight cancer in children, by getting friends and relatives to sponsor them, and then losing their locks. Since the first event back in 2000, St. Baldrick’s volunteers have raised more than $69 million, which is used for life-saving, scientific cancer research. Junior Joe Busta of Lyons said, “Throughout the school there was a buzz of anticipation for this fundraiser. I was apprehensive about having my hair cut off, but I knew it was for a great cause. In fact, now I actually like the way I look without any hair.” He is pictured after his haircut with hairstylist Kari Polacek, who volunteered her services that day. |
