Mayor Carl LeGant said that his concerns are with the residents of his city
not the 4 a.m. bar he managed to close.
The Natural at 6535 Joliet Rd. was just down the road from Tooter’s, an
infamous 4 a.m. bar in unincorporated Cook County that gave LeGant big
headaches and was torn down last month.
Now, The Natural seems to be facing the same fate that Tooter’s suffered
unless the city council approves a 2 a.m. liquor license for the bar.
LeGant said that is highly unlikely because the bar needs 4 votes in the
council to get a liquor license granted and he doesn’t believe the aldermen
will vote in the bar’s favor especially because two aldermen are
in the area where the bar is located.
LeGant said that he didn’t believe that the police would be sorry to see
the bar go either.
The Natural and Tooter’s seemed to draw police from Indian Head Park,
Countryside and the Cook County Sheriff’s department.
LeGant cited incidences that occurred at both The Natural and Tooter’s
as to why he did not believe the bar was good for the city.
Township of Lyons Supervisor Pat Rogers said that they held meetings
with the residents and a public hearing with members of the Cook County
liquor commission to discuss the two businesses.
Residents cited disturbances caused by bar patrons at both Tooter’s and
The Natural.
Meanwhile LeGant said that he does not have a grudge against the
business but that his main concerns are for the residents.
LeGant said that Countryside residents did not request for the site to
remain open but that the bar owner does have a right to apply for a liquor
license.
LeGant said that this liquor license is slated to come up at December’s
board meeting scheduled for Wednesday Dec. 13.
