The
referendum that banned term limits in Lyons
failed to pass by a good margin but Village President
David Visk said that the term limits are
unconstitutional.
Visk said that the term limits set for the President
of the United States are different because the
positions face different challenges.
Visk then asked why is Lyons one of only three
municipalities in Illinois that has term limits and
said that term limits take away the rights from
citizens to choose to keep people on.
Visk said that it was difficult to keep good people
on as public servants because of term limits and said
that, “you get more done when you have consecutive
terms because you already have your projects
underway.”
Visk also said that they will no longer try to get
rid of the term limits and will move on to choosing
candidates for his party in the upcoming election.
There are 15 candidates in The Logical Choice Party
to replace outgoing trustees whose terms have expired.
Visk said that they will probably announce their
decision on who will run for trustees after the
holidays.
