Forum set for SD 103 candidates

By James Pluta

Ten candidates vying for five School Board seats in Lyons-Brookfield
District 103 have been invited to attend a community forum next week
sponsored by the La Grange Area League of Women Voters.

The last candidate to face an objection was incumbent Kathleen Fuentes,
who had already been thrown off the ballot in her planned dual race for
Stickney trustee — but who withdrew from the District 103 ballot prior to
a Feb. 22 court hearing.

So, the race is now down to eight candidates for four 4-year posts and two
for two 2-year seats.

Those include incumbents Joanne Schaeffer, David Deleshe and Deanna Viti
Huxhold and independent ally Daniel Rank running against an unofficial
slate backed by Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty comprised of Alan Ermitage,
Mitch Milenkovic, James Dever and Lilia Rivera Ortiz for the 4-year seats,
as well as 2-year hopefuls independent John Kiser and the Getty-backed
Doug Lane.

The question-answer session, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 in the large
gymnasium of George Washington Middle School, 8101 W. Ogden Ave., Lyons,
was scheduled after Parent-Teacher associations at some of the district
schools sought out a nonpartisan area organization to host the event.

Questions can be posed that evening or by emailing them to
www.lagrangearealwv@gmail.com with “Question for Forum in SD103” in the
subject line.
