NewsSummit makes arrest in recent shootingBy James Pluta Summit police have released the details of a man arrested in connection with the shooting of an occupied vehicle in the 7400 block of West 63rd Street earlier this month. The shooting, during which no gunshot injuries were reported, took place on the street at 2:39 p.m. Dec. 9, according to Detective David Seaquist. Facing charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon was Emmanuel Strother of Summit, who also lists Westmont as an address. His age was not released. Strother, said Seaquist, was arrested shortly after shooting a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun several times in the direction of a vehicle that contained street gang members, according to witnesses. It also was not known if Strother is a gang member, nor did he announce his affiliation at the time. Strother allegedly told investigators he was shooting at the vehicle because its occupants were pointing a gun at him. The weapon was recovered, as were four ammunition round casings from the gun, said Seaquist — who indicated it was not yet known whether the incident was in any way related to two recent cases of shots fired both into and near the N&Z Store across from Argo Community High School or a murder in an alley earlier this month a couple blocks to the north. The only injury, according to Police Chief Les Peterson, was to an unidentified man in or near the vehicle, who was struck with flying glass. “It was really good case work on the Police Department’s part,” said Peterson. |
