AREA WIDE

Moraine Valley Community College will host a Medical Education Series
presentation on “Neuromodulation: Science Fact” from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wed.,
Nov. 12, in the college’s Dorothy Menker Theater, 9000 W. College Parkway

Moraine Valley Community College will host “Suitable Delineations” by

The Bead Society of Greater Chicago will present the 12th Art of Beadwork

The Pleasantdale Garden Club is a medium sized club whose main purpose is
to promote the interests of gardening, conservation, environmental and

People 65 years of age and older can now get around on CTA, Metra and
Pace mass transit for free. To ride free, those 65 or older must have

Aging Well, a collaboration of individuals and organizations in 20
communities in the greater Lyons Township area, has created a
Transportation Guide specifically for older adults. The guide was
designed to help older adults better understand and access their
transportation options. Copies are available at village halls throughout

Thousands of veterans and their families now have another way to find
help when filing for pension benefits. Project VetAssist
(www.vetassist.org) is a free online service that guides vets or their
survivors applying for the VA Improved Pension Program. Financially
limited veterans who are 65 or older or physically disabled -- and had at
least 90 days of service during World War II or the Vietnam, Korean of
Gulf Wars -- can apply for the pension program. Applicants can also email
info@VetAssist.org.

Do you know someone who has been deprived of their ability to walk due to
illness or disease? Wheels of Love helps seniors who suffer form
respiratory disorders, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, has a mobility
limitation and difficulty in propelling a standard wheelchair, to receive
a powerchair or scooter paid for by Medicare. For eligibility information

Community Extension Project, a non-profit youth agency that focuses on
youth development, is recruiting adult volunteers for its mentoring
program. Mentors are adults who offer support, compassion, counsel and
friendship to a young person ages 5 to 12. For more information call

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the
permanently disabled power wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if
they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk
and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home and who meet the
additional guidelines of the program. No deposit required. Call (800)
839-5715 to see if you qualify.

The Miracle on Wheels program develops public awareness of the options
available to remain independent in your own home. If your mobility is
limited, you’re at risk of falling or aggravating your conditions and
can’t use a manual wheelchair, call (800) 749-8778 toll-free before
choosing expensive income care or a nursing home.

BEDFORD PARK AREA

The Bedford Park Public Library hosts blood pressure screenings every
Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The Bedford Park Public Library hosts Wednesday movies at noon featuring
their new projection system.

GFWC Illinois, Past President’s Club will hold their meeting Sat., Nov.
15, after the 6th District meeting in the Bedford Park Community
Building. A light lunch will be available. After lunch there will be a
brief business meeting followed by service projects.

The Bedford Park Woman’s Club will hold their monthly meeting Tues., Nov.
18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bedford Park Community Building, 6700 S. 78th

Volunteers are needed to work as official greeters and receptionists at
the Civic Center Authority and Heritage Corridor Convention Visitor
Center. Volunteers work one weekend day each month for three to four

The Argo-Summit, Bedford Park Woman’s Club has a cook book containing

BRIDGEVIEW AREA.

The Bridgeview Park District will host their November Let’s Dine dinner
at the Salerno Pincente Ristorante in Countryside on Nov. 9. You will
choose your own dinner off the Italian cuisine menu. The cost is $6. They
will depart at 5:40 p.m. from the Bridgeview Park District Sports
Complex, 8100 S. Beloit, and will return at approximately 8 p.m. This

Schaumburg on Fri., Dec. 5. Everyone will be given a shopping bag and

The Bridgeview Park District will host a trip to Allstate Arena on Sun.,
Jan. 11 to watch the 2008 Calder Cup Champions the Chicago Wolves. Every
registered person will receive a Chicago Wolves bobble-head. Seats are

The Bridgeview Park District will host Cuisine Art for Little Chefs on

The Bridgeview Senior Citizens Club meet the first and third Thursday of

Society, which manges Brookfield Zoo, is hosting a recognition ceremony

Brookfield Zoo will host its annual Tree Trim Days Sat., Nov. 22 and
Sun., Nov. 23 during regular zoo hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in

detailing the town name, group donating and group decorating the tree, 20

Helping Hand Rehabilitation Center, a local non-profit organization
providing assistance to children and adults with disabilities, needs

COUNTRYSIDE AREA

Countryside Seniors who need help with leaf raking will be glad to learn
that The Aging Well Team is teaming up with local students to offer free
leaf raking service to Countryside seniors Sat., Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to
1 p.m. Residents must be at home at this time. Those interested may

HICKORY HILLS AREA

The St. Patricia Parents Club will present Super Bingo at St. Patricia
Parish Center, 9000 S. 86th Ave., Hickory Hills on Sun., Nov. 16 from 1
to 5 p.m. Doors will open at noon with early bird games at 1 p.m.
followed by bingo at 1:30. You must be 18 years or older to play. Tickets

JUSTICE AREA

The Justice Seniors Club meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at
the Justice Village Hall All Purpose Room at 12 noon.

The Sterling Estates Senior Club invites seniors 55 years of age and
older to join their club. Interested persons must be a resident of
Sterling Estates Mobile Home Park or the village of Justice. The club
meets the first and third Monday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Clubhouse
in Sterling Estates. Each meeting will feature coffee and bingo.

LA GRANGE AREA

Bible Study for Beginners will look at the book of Daniel at 10 a.m. on
Nov. 9, 16, and 20 in room 204 at Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange, 200
N. Catherine Ave. presented by Rev. Jin Yang Kim, scholar-in-residence.

The Southwest Suburban Center on Aging, La Grange, will offer a Take
Charge of Your Health program for people managing chronic illnesses. The
program will be held on Mondays from November 10 through December 15 from
1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Center on Aging, 111 W. Harris Avenue, La Grange.

The Robert E. Coulter Jr. Unit #1941 Ladies Auxiliary will meet Wed.,
Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Their featured speaker will be Patrol Officer April

The Robert E. Coulter, Jr. Post No. 1941 will hold their annual pancake
breakfast and bake sale Sun., Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. to noon a the post

The ConfiCare Act II offers a health and fitness walking class on Mondays
and Wednesdays at 8:15 at the Western Springs Recreation Center, 1500
Walker St., Western Springs for an hour of walking and toning exercises.

The Southwest Suburban Center on Aging, 111 W. Harris Ave., La Grange,
will have experienced and dedicated AARP trained tax volunteers available
to assist seniors with the completion of tax return. To schedule an
appointment call (708) 354-1323. Appointments will continue through April 4.

Community Nutrition Network, in conjunction with the Southwest Suburban
Center on Aging is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to frail,
disabled or homebound seniors in the area. Each day Monday through Friday
more than 130 meals are delivered to seniors in La Grange, Riverside,
North Riverside, Lyons, Brookfield, Western Springs, Countryside,
Hodgkins, La Grange Park and Indian Head Park. These areas are divided
into five routes and two volunteers are needed for each route. One
person drives and one person takes the meal to the door. Volunteers can
commit to one day a week or more. Deliveries usually take an hour. Anyone

LYONS AREA

The New Beginnings, a contemporary women’s choral group, will sing
popular songs and Broadway tunes at the Lyons Public Library, 4209 Joliet
Ave., on Wed., Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Barbershop Quartet, the Convertibles, will sing holiday songs at the
Lyons Public Library, 4209 Joliet Ave., on Sat., Nov. 29, at 1 p.m.

The Lyons Library Board of Trustees has adjusted the library policy on
youth internet use. The new policy requires the parents/guardians decide
whether to allow a minor to use the internet. Once written permission is
granted, a minor may use the internet for academic or recreational
purposes at their own discretion. Youth patrons will be subject to the
same time limits as adults.

The Lyons Public Library now offers residents the opportunity to pay
their fines and fees online with a credit card through E-Commerce. Simply
log onto swan.mls.lib.il.us.

The Lyons Senior Citizens Club meets the 1st ad 3rd Tuesday of each month
through May. Meetings are held at St. John United Church of Christ, 4500
Prescott at noon.

LYONS TOWNSHIP AREA

Tickets for the annual Lyons Township High School Hall of Fame are
available. The deadline for purchasing tickets is November 13. Call the
Community Relations office at (708) 579-6483 or send your check made
payable to LTHS Hall of Fame to: the Hall of Fame Committee, c/o
Community Relations, LTHS 100 S. Brainard Ave., La Grange, IL 60525.
Indicate the number of tickets desired, at $35 each, and your choice of
entree: chicken, beef or fish. Tables of 10 may be reserved.

Southwest Suburban Center on Aging is working with Aging Well to recruit
senior volunteers to work as ambassadors in their local community. The
ambassadors have begun making visits to various local businesses and
organizations throughout the greater Lyons Township area to send a
message that there are choices and resources available regarding options
for older adults and their caregivers. Anyone wishing to apply or find

SUMMIT AREA

The Summit Park District will host a trip to Four Winds Casino in New
Buffalo, Michigan on Wed., Nov. 12. Participants will receive coupons
good for slot machines and/or table games. A van will take the
participants from the park district to the casino bus depot in Crestwood
where they will board a free bus at 9 a.m. Participants will return to
the bus depot at 6:45 p.m. where the Summit Park van will bring them back
to the park. Meals are on your own. The cost is $5 for residents and
$7.50 for non-residents. Seating is limited. For more information call

The Summit Park District is offering at trip to Water Tower Place on
Wed., Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spend a day of Christmas shopping at
the 8-level atrium with more than 110 stores and restaurants.
Participants will receive “premier perks” which feature special offers
from more than 50 stores. Lunch will be one your own. There will be
curbside service for Summit residents. The cost is $10 for residents and

The Summit Public Library offers arts & crafts Mondays at 4 p.m. A wreath
of leaves will be made on Nov. 10, a paper scarecrow will be made Nov. 17

The Summit Public Library will host a senior citizen’s dental seminar
Thurs., Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. Guests will receive information on Medicade
dental coverage for senior citizens. For more information contact Laura

The Summit Public Library will be holding a fall and winter food drive
from Nov. 17 through Dec. 18. Bring a non-perishable food item to the
front desk and receive one of the following: 10 cents off a fine/item; 1
free print out/item; 5 extra minutes of computer time/item. Limit 3 per
day. Donations will be distributed to local community needs
organizations.

Zoo Passes are available at Summit Library. A library card without fines
and a $20 deposit are required to borrow the passes. The deposit is
returned when passes are returned on time.

The Summit Senior Citizens Club is looking for new members age 55 years
or older who are residents of Summit or the surrounding areas. Dues are
$6 yearly and meetings feature bingo, speakers, trip & tour offers and
other special events. Members meet the first Wednesday of each month at
10 a.m. in the Summit Municipal Center, 7321 W. 59th St. October’s
meeting features a potluck snack and dessert Autumn Party for members.

WILLOW SPRINGS AREA

Willow Springs School will host their annual family reading night titled
Go Anywhere with a Book Thurs., Nov. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The night
will feature “the Willow Readers” performing on the S.S. Willow Main
Stage. There will also be numerous reading activities for parents to
participate in with their children.

The Willow Springs Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. on the the 3rd
Monday of each month at the Willow Springs Historical Society, 8156 S.
Archer. The Museum is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. Visit and see the different displays
of Willow Springs history.

The Willow Springs Senior Club hosts their regular monthly meeting the
third Tuesday of the month. Anyone interested in joining can come to the
meeting. The initial cost to join is $5. Monthly fees are $3 and include
lunch. A raffle and bingo are also held each month.

Any Willow Springs resident who wishes to join the Willow Springs Senior
